MG electric car parts: a sourcing checklist

An MG badge or model name is only the beginning of a parts enquiry. Before sourcing a replacement for an MG4, MG5, ZS EV or another electric MG, prepare enough information for the seller and workshop to identify the exact component.

1. Identify the market version and original part

Record the VIN, model year, trim, battery variant where relevant, steering position and original country of sale. Add the part number and any suffix from the component label. Tell the seller whether you need the left or right side, a complete assembly or a subcomponent.

Ask the workshop to distinguish the symptom from the required replacement. A search for a noise, fault message or charging problem is not itself a reliable identification of the part to buy. Obtain a diagnosis before ordering a component on that basis.

2. Check official service options first

MG Motor Europe’s FAQ provides information on genuine replacement parts and warranty conditions. Use the authorized service network to confirm which terms apply to your vehicle and proposed repair. Do not assume a marketplace seller’s warranty is the same as a manufacturer warranty.

An independent supplier may be able to quote for your requested item. Ask for written confirmation of the manufacturer, exact reference, condition and origin. A claim of “OEM quality” should not be treated as evidence of a genuine MG part.

3. Resolve specification questions before payment

For lamps, mirrors and body components, ask about side, fittings, finish and market specification. For an electronic module, ask your installer about coding or calibration before accepting a quotation. Do not rely on colour or external shape alone.

Does the quoted reference match, or is there a documented replacement reference?
What exactly is included in the price?
Is the component new, refurbished or used?
Who pays return freight if the seller’s written fitment confirmation is wrong?

4. Compare the complete delivered quote

Send each seller the same quantity and delivery address. Compare the item price, freight, stated import charges, delivery estimate and return terms together. Where a cost is unknown, mark it as unconfirmed instead of treating it as zero. Our supplier directory is a starting point for enquiries, not a guarantee of stock or delivery.
