How to match EV parts using a VIN and part number
Two parts can look alike and still be unsuitable for the same vehicle. Use this enquiry workflow to reduce ambiguity when requesting Chinese electric car parts from a dealer or independent supplier.
1. Build a vehicle identification record
Record the make, model, model year, VIN, trim, market of original sale and steering position. If you are unsure of a field, say so and ask the seller or workshop to help identify it. Do not guess a variant simply to complete an online filter.
Share the VIN privately with the supplier handling your quotation. There is no need to post registration documents or personal details in public forums to ask a general sourcing question.
2. Copy the entire component reference
Photograph the label before removing or discarding the old item. Preserve letters, numbers, spaces and suffixes in the enquiry. Send photographs of connectors and mounting points as supporting information, and explain whether you want a complete assembly or an individual component.
If the seller proposes a different reference, ask why: is it a documented replacement, a revised version or a claimed aftermarket equivalent? Ask your installer to review the evidence. A text match in a listing is a lead, not a fitment certificate.
3. Get the confirmation in the quotation
Ask the seller to identify the vehicle and part in its written response. Keep the response with the invoice so the agreed specification is clear if there is a mismatch.
- Quoted part number, manufacturer and condition
- Vehicle variant and market covered by the confirmation
- Included components, quantity and pack size
- Installation prerequisites to confirm with the workshop
- Return terms for a specification mismatch
4. Pause when the evidence conflicts
If the product title, label photograph and written quote contain different references, ask for clarification before paying. If the seller cannot confirm the variant, seek another quotation or use the manufacturer’s service network. Our directory does not replace a parts catalogue or professional fitment check.
Use the downloadable enquiry checklist to send identical requirements to every supplier. Clear requirements make both fitment checks and price comparisons easier.
Put the guide into practice
Download the checklist, choose your destination and contact suppliers with the same requirements.
